Kindle Unlimited is now called Kindle+. Your twenty books did not notice.

Same price, same twenty books, new name and a new logo. The one real change is American, and it talks: audiobooks.

The email arrived in Spanish on October 22, 2026, because Spain is the store I buy from. Subject, more or less: new name, same great reading experience. Kindle Unlimited is now Kindle+. I read it twice looking for the catch, then went and checked the sign-up pages on amazon.com, amazon.ca, amazon.co.uk, amazon.es, amazon.de, amazon.fr, amazon.it and amazon.co.jp. Every one of them says Kindle+ now. France, which had been calling it "Abonnement Kindle", got the new name too.

Amazon's reason is that the subscription has grown past ebooks into magazines, comics and, in one country, audiobooks, and "Unlimited" was never quite true anyway: you could always hold twenty titles at a time, not infinity. A plus sign promises less. I respect that.

What changed on October 22, and what did not

  • The name and the logo. That is the whole list in most countries. The app, the website and the emails show Kindle+ and a new design.
  • Not the price. As of October 2026 it is still $11.99 a month in the US, £9.49 in the UK, €11.75 in Germany, €9.99 in Spain, France and Italy, and ¥980 in Japan.
  • Not the limit. Twenty titles at a time, no due dates. Return one to borrow the next, same as last week.
  • Not your account. Amazon's email lists your reading history, saved titles, bookmarks, notes and progress as untouched, along with how you are billed.
  • Not the ebooks. Amazon announced no change to which ebooks are in it. The label on the book page is still what to check before you borrow, whatever it is called this week.

The one real change is in the US, and you listen to it

On amazon.com, Kindle+ now covers "books, audiobooks, magazines, comics". Amazon's announcement to self-published authors spells out how the audio gets in. Audiobooks made with KDP's virtual voice, which is AI narration, join automatically when the ebook is enrolled. Human-narrated audiobooks from ACX can join if whoever published them opts in, and only if they are exclusive to Audible. Amazon says more marketplaces are "to come" and has not said which or when. Outside the US, the sign-up pages still list ebooks, magazines and comics, and nothing that talks.

For LitRPG listeners, that leaves the big question open. The famous recordings (Jeff Hays on Dungeon Crawler Carl, Heath Miller on He Who Fights with Monsters, Travis Baldree on The Primal Hunter) come from audio publishers, so it is not as simple as an author ticking a box. As of October 22, 2026 I have not verified any of them in the subscription. Until the book page says otherwise, plan around Audible: the Audible vs Kindle+ math is here, and the best LitRPG audiobooks has narrators and running times.

Do you need to do anything? No.

If you had Kindle Unlimited, you have Kindle+. It renews on the same date for the same amount, and the books you borrowed are still on your Kindle. Amazon's email says you do not need to do anything, and for once I agree with a marketing email. Old links to amazon.com/kindleunlimited still land on the sign-up page, which now says "Join Kindle+". Amazon's help pages now send you to amazon.com/kindleplus to manage or cancel it.

Prime did not change either. Prime Reading is still the free sampler that comes with Prime, ten titles at a time, and amazon.com now describes it as a taste of the Kindle+ library. Kindle+ vs Prime Reading covers which one you need. And since the price did not move, neither did the break-even point: the calculator gives the same answer it gave last week.

Every page on this site says Kindle+ now. The addresses still say kindle-unlimited, because breaking links you saved to win a naming argument with Amazon is a bad trade.

If you have never tried it, the free trial works the same under the new name: one month, twenty books at a time. Start it the week a series you want is finished, not the week you read this.

Free for 30 days if you haven't tried Kindle+ (formerly Kindle Unlimited) before. It then renews at $11.99 a month plus tax (as of October 2026) unless you cancel, which you can do any time at amazon.com/kindleplus. Affiliate link: we may earn a referral fee.

If you live outside the US, the only part of this rename worth watching is the audio. Amazon has promised it to more stores without naming one. Until then, Kindle+ in Madrid, Munich or Tokyo is Kindle Unlimited with a shorter name.

Questions people actually ask

What is Kindle+?
Kindle+ is Amazon's new name for Kindle Unlimited, the monthly subscription that lets you borrow up to 20 ebooks, magazines and comics at a time. Amazon renamed it on October 22, 2026. In the US it now includes audiobooks too.
Is Kindle+ the same as Kindle Unlimited?
Yes. Same subscription, same catalog, same 20-title limit, same billing. Only the name and the logo changed, plus audiobooks for US members. Existing Kindle Unlimited members became Kindle+ members automatically.
Does Kindle+ cost more than Kindle Unlimited?
No. As of October 2026 the price is unchanged: $11.99 a month in the US, £9.49 in the UK, €11.75 in Germany, €9.99 in Spain, France and Italy, and ¥980 in Japan.
Does Kindle+ include audiobooks?
In the US, yes, for titles whose rights holders enroll them: AI-narrated audiobooks made in KDP join automatically with their ebook, and Audible-exclusive ACX audiobooks can be opted in. Outside the US, not yet; Amazon says more marketplaces are coming without giving dates.
Do I need to do anything if I had Kindle Unlimited?
No. Your membership, billing date, price, borrowed books, notes and reading progress carry over unchanged. Amazon's email to members says no action is needed.
Is Kindle+ included with Amazon Prime?
No. Kindle+ is a separate subscription. Prime includes Prime Reading, a smaller rotating selection with a limit of ten titles at a time.
